Smackdown vs Raw 2008 was released in the fall of 2007, as it was apart of the popular WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw series (now titled WWE 2K). During development wrestler Chris Benoit was originally going to be a playable character in the game, but was quickly removed due to the tragic double-murder and suicide that occurred over the summer of 2007 in which Benoit took the life of his wife Nancy, son Daniel and himself in the process.
Why It Was Cancelled[]
- Chris Benoit died on June 24, 2007 of suicide by hanging before the game was made after. Nancy Benoit died on June 22, 2007 of murder by strangulation and Daniel Benoit died on June 23, 2007 of Murder by strangulation.
- It is possible that the game was delayed and the playable character was removed during the development due to Benoit's attempted murder and suicide.
Results[]
- The original version with Chris Benoit playable character was permanently cancelled.
- The game was released without Benoit.
