Socks the Cat Rocks the Hill is a platformer game featuring Bill Clinton's real-life pet cat Socks. The game heavily uses political satire, including bosses that are meant to be caricatures of former U.S. presidents and other political figures. It's been reported that despite their censorship policies at the time, Nintendo liked the game.
Plot[]
Socks has to stop a nuclear bomb in order to save the Clinton family and Washington D.C. from doom.
Why it was Cancelled[]
- The game's cancellation was likely due to the closure of Kaneko's US branch following a series of commercial failures in North America.
Result[]
- The game was permanently cancelled.
- The game's prototype eventually came into the possession of a collector named DreamTR (real name Jason Wilson) and uploaded a five-minute video on Youtube in 2011 to prove its existence, and also troll the audience, as they wanted the collector to dump the ROM file so it can be preserved. It was eventually sold to Tom Curtin a year later, and with a successful Kickstarter campagin, the game finally saw it's release in 2018.
Trivia[]
- The Sega Genesis version was cancelled.
