Flesh and Wire was a cancelled third person game made by Running with Scissors. Developed in late 90s, planned to come out on the PS2, Gamecube and Dreamcast, you take control of Angus, a sleazy, slimy cop who wakes up one morning with an alien amoebae-like creature noshing on his legs, and his city has been engulfed by a bio-ship by the name of the Nulloid.

Plot[]

The game follows Angus, a sleazy, slimy cop who wakes up one morning with an alien amoebae-like creature noshing on his legs, and his city has been engulfed by a bio-ship by the name of the Nulloid. Rather than worry about what the heck the thing's doing to his lower half, he comes to the realization that he can control the gelatinous blob, and uses this new-found power to move around and utilize special abilities, sloshing around the levels.

Gameplay[]

The game would be in third-person, you would have navigated through levels, using special abilities and solving puzzles, such as creating a ladder to reach higher areas, a bungee to descend, or even a shield to protect against enemies.

You could wield weapons like a Gatling cannon, an electric gun, and poison gas, with the option to combine them into even more potent weapons. The game also encouraged players to gather as much material as possible to increase the amoeba's size and speed, but moving around would gradually cause the amoeba to lose some of its mass.

Why it was cancelled[]

After Panasonic Interactive Media, the parent company of Ripcord Games, announced its closure, a deal was made earlier in the year to transition Ripcord into an independent entity. Vince Desi then revealed that Running With Scissors would continue developing Flesh & Wire independently and would support Ripcord's new team in a fresh original project. However, despite Running With Scissors investing $1.5 million dollars into the game, as reported in a December 1999 issue of Spin Magazine, Ripcord Games eventually withdrew their support. Without a publisher willing to back the project, it was ultimately canceled, and Running With Scissors shifted focus to other ventures.

Result[]

The game was cancelled alongside two unannounced games in 1999 and RWS focused on POSTAL. As Ripcord's license for Postal ended, RWS would go on to make their most popular game, Postal 2.
