Cancelled Games Wiki

Earthworm Jim 3D is a Action Platformer that was developed by VIS Entertainment (same devs whom later went on and make State of Emergency and Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick) and published by Interplay Entertainment for the PC and European N64 releases and by Rockstar Games for the American N64 release. The game was first released on the N64 on November 4th, 1999 and then later on PC on May 24th, 2000. It was reported during development that the game was also planned for the original PlayStation alongside N64 and Windows versions but later eventually got scrapped like halfway through development. When the game did get released in 1999, it was considered by most to be the death of the Earthworm Jim franchise.

Why was the port cancelled?[]

  • Due to how rushed the development for this game was, VIS Entertainment didn't have enough time to properly optimize the PS1 version so they decided to focus more effort on the N64 version instead.

Result[]

Because the PlayStation version was permanently cancelled, we ended up only getting Nintendo 64 and PC/Windows versions of Earthworm Jim 3D.
